World Radio Day

World Radio Day is an international day celebrating the medium of radio. Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO and adopted by the UN General assembly in 2012, the annual event on 13th February aims to spread awareness about the importance of radio, how it evolved over the years, and how it connects us. Radio waves reach the most distant corners of the world making it a medium that connects the most remote communities to everyone else.

Radio is a low-cost medium that can connect people from all backgrounds and encourage discourse between them. It’s crucial for communicating emergencies and is often one of the few ways to keep up to date in areas struck by disaster. World Radio Day celebrates the diverse and individual platform the medium has become to humanity.

Spread the Word about Radio Day

Despite media gravitating towards the online world, radio still has an important purpose to serve. Going beyond education and entertainment, it can become a lifeline for remote communities or when disaster strikes.

Radio has adapted well to the fast-paced digitization with apps and podcasts. Next to live programmes, listeners can also choose to tune into particular shows whenever they want via their smartphones. This keeps up with the demand and is a new level of convenience for all those with a favorite radio show. You don’t need to tune in at a certain time but can enjoy the programme at any time across nations through your internet connection. This is definitely something to appreciate on World Radio Day.
