St. David’s Day has been celebrated since the 12th century when Saint David became the patron saint of Wales. In his lifetime, he founded 12 monasteries and the important Christian shrine of Glyn Rhosyn. His feast day is not a national holiday but Saint David is still commemorated in parades around Wales.

A big part of the celebrations is the “eisteddfodau”, which is essentially a competition of poetry and music that children participate in school.
